How a tooth is built
Four layers worth knowing
Enamel
The hardest tissue in the body. It protects the tooth from acids and wear, but cannot repair itself.
Dentin
The layer under the enamel: softer and more sensitive. When decay reaches it, the tooth starts to react to cold and sweet.
Pulp
The nerves and blood vessels of the tooth. When they become inflamed, root canal treatment is needed.
Roots
